Keeping it short for this Easter Sunday. I accept that today’s meal will not be part of a recommended cardiovascular diet. This got me pondering my failure to understand how people stay committed to a complete lifestyle eating program. It also has me acknowledging my failure to do so.
I have been very bad lately when it comes to sticking to my doctor recommended diet. Quite honestly it is not how I would choose to eat if the doctor hadn’t suggested (very forcefully) that I eat plant based. Eating a lot of grains and legumes does some not good things to my digestive tract. However eating a lot of cheese, butter, and fat doesn’t really agree with me either. Eating mostly grains and vegetables leaves me starving so I want to eat constantly. Eating more protein sources that contain saturated fats is supposedly clogging my arteries.
Like in so many other areas of today’s world, people are divided on which is best. Vegans on one end of the spectrum insist it is unethical and unhealthy for humans to consume meat. Carnivores on the other end of the spectrum believe humans were designed to eat meat only and their plant intake should come from whatever the meat of choice ate.
So what should we eat?
Over the next couple of weeks I am going to move along the lifestyle eating spectrum, with descriptions of each diet*, any benefits I can find, and any deficits also. The internet is filled with recipes, so I will attempt to post some that are easy and look interesting.
My hope is that by digging into each lifestyle I will learn more about nutrition and over all health. I hope my searching will spark others into taking a good look into their food and understand that we really “are what we eat.”
*They are called “diets” but should be considered lifestyle choices if you are committed to eat this way.
