About

About 10 years ago I noticed the scent of candles, air freshener, strong perfume, and even fragrenced cat litter bothered me. My throat got scratchy, my eyes burned and watered, and if I couldn’t get away, a migraine developed. Within the last couple of years, it has escalated to the point where I have to hold my breath if I am near someone who is wearing too much perfume, or when I go into the laundry detergent aisle at the grocery store. This syndrome is called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) or Idopathic Environmental (IEI) Intolerance. There is much debate in the medical field as to whether MCS is a physical or psychiatric condition. For me, what matters is they have put a name to this condition.

As I became more sensitive to everyday products, I began searching for alternatives, discovering essential oils along the way. I enrolled in an aromatherapy certification program at Aromahead Institute and learned that essential oils were more than just pretty scents that I could use. When utilized correctly, they have verifiable medicinal benefits. Soon I found myself fully immersed in aromatherapy. That led to herbal studies. I began creating salves, lotions, diffuser blends, room sprays, and so much more.

This was the beginning of Scented by Nature.

I’m Ann

I originate from the northeast corner of the United States. Recently my husband and I packed up our lives and moved to a rural town in Middle Tennessee. I need to be outdoors in the sunshine. I need to soak in the scent of fresh-cut grass and flowers in bloom. This life change provides me with more time to have my hands and feet in the soil, growing our food and medicine. Herbalism and aromatherapy have become an intricate part of my journey toward a more natural way of living. Scented by Nature is my way of inviting you to make the break from synthetics and begin your journey to a more balanced life.
